The conversion of Augustine

(Originally written November 12, 2006 in Book 11)

Chapter 3 - Augustine: God the Creator His Life and Times

Augustine was the first great Christian philosopher.

He was born in 354 AD. Prior to his birth Christianity had been harshly persecuted, made legal, and then made the state religion.

Augustine was from Thagaste, North Africa. He was educated at Carthage despite a lack of means in his family.

Augustine studied rhetoric and ended up in Rome. From Rome he went to Milan.

In 386 while in Milan he was converted to Christianity.

He returned to Africa and became bishop of Hippo where he then dedicated his life to fighting heresy and creating a systematic theology.
