Russell: Why I am not a Christian - Preface

(Originally written September 1, 2005 in Book 2)

Why I am not a Christian
Bertrand Russell
1957

Preface

Russell has not softened his view on religion.

Major Religions of the World:
-Christianity
-Islam
-Buddhism
-Hinduism
-Communism

All of these are dangerous and untrue.

Religion which men accept is almost always based on geography.

Logical arguments proving the existence of God have been killed because the Aristotelian logic they use is antiquated.

The argument from design was killed by Darwin.

Religions are harmful and untrue.

Having faith is not virtuous, it is ignorance. Faith ignores evidence that is contrary to its beliefs.

Abandoning faith and trusting in only convictions based upon evidence would make the world a better place.

Education aims at preventing growth on abandoning faith for science.

Russell wishes the world would learn with mental freedom rather than be imprisoned by calculated dogma aimed at stunting growth.

The world needs open hearts and open minds. which cannot be found through rigid religious constraints.
