Chapter 6 - St. Benedict & Gregory the Great

continued...

The conversion of the heathens was vital to the increase of the Church influence.

"The mission, as we know, prospered, and that is why we are all Christians at this day" (Russell, 387).

Linehan - It is insulting to hear what non-believers call Christians. Part of it is our own fault, but part of it is pure ignorance of non-believers.

Russell holds that is peculiar that the early Christian era produced great men that were less great than men of other ages, but these men have had more influence. I believe that is peculiar that Russell's barometer of greatness is completely ignorant of influence.
