The Divine Right of Stagnation

The Divine Right of Stagnation
Nathaniel Branden

Man survives by transforming his environment through productive work, not adapting to an environment like an animal.

Life is a process of self-sustaining action; humans do so through thought and production.

Man's need of thought and effort is never diminished or satisfied.

Constant growth is a psychological need of man's.

The doctrine of divine stagnation is letting men keep their jobs even though they are unnecessary, promoting men on superiority rather than performance; it is punishing the more productive workers and rewarding the less productive ones.

Capitalism is, by nature, a constant process of growth. Neither capitalism nor reality rewards or is fit for stagnation.
