St. Augustine
I enjoy reading Augustine because I feel like I know where he's coming from. Even 1600 years removed from him I understand his issues because they're mine. The insecurity, the dependence, the strenght, the weakness, the manic highs and lows all seem to be presented by Augustine in a way that addresses me in my own heart, in spite of the cultural and time differences between us. While Augustine certainly can get speculative in some of his theology, I appreciate his approach to it. He grasps firm what the Scripture says and a lot less firm the speculation he does about it.
